At the Log Cabin, a hospitality group in Springfield, Massachusetts, the team is usually busy planning weddings, corporate events and celebrations of all kinds. But recently, their workday took a surprising turn — one that had nothing to do with centerpieces or schedules, and everything to do with a scared little pup in need.
It began when employee Hanna texted her coworker, Casey Becker, saying she’d seen a small puppy running loose on the property. Becker and the HR director, Brianna, rushed to the parking lot to look for him.

After scanning the area, they finally spotted the tiny dog trembling underneath a dumpster. Realizing he needed professional help, they immediately contacted Holyoke Animal Control.
While waiting for officers to arrive, the staff sprang into action. They arranged milk crates around the dumpster to prevent the frightened pup from bolting into the nearby woods. When animal control arrived, everyone worked together to gently guide the puppy toward one side of the dumpster — where Brianna waited with a leash in hand.

Their teamwork worked perfectly. Within moments, Brianna slipped the leash on and lifted the little dog safely out into the daylight.

The relief was instant.
“We felt great!” Becker said. “The pup was very friendly and a cutie.”

Animal control officers transported him to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center, where he began his mandatory stray hold. While his future is still unknown, he’s now safe, warm and in the hands of people who will ensure he gets the care he needs.
“We hope he goes to a safe and happy home,” Becker said.
