When Emily pulled into a U-Haul lot to rent a truck, she never imagined she’d leave with a life-changing companion. But as she waited, a stray cat strolled up out of nowhere, climbed into her lap, and refused to leave.
Curious, Emily asked around and learned that the cat — later named Lou — had been living on the lot for some time. Locals occasionally fed her, describing her as feral. But from the moment Lou met Emily, it was clear she had made up her mind about her new person.
Lou wasn’t just looking for a meal — she was looking for help. Emily soon realized the cat was pregnant.
“The cat distribution system has finally caught up to me — even though I’m allergic,” Emily joked in a TikTok video.
Despite her allergies, she couldn’t bring herself to walk away. She scooped Lou up and took her straight to the vet. The news was immediate and urgent: Lou was very close to giving birth, and Emily needed to get her home — fast.
Within hours, the two of them were camped out in Emily’s bathroom, preparing for delivery. Lou clung to her new human’s side, showing no signs of the so-called “feral” nature others had warned about.
“I’m so confused,” Emily said. “The people at U-Haul said she was feral, but she’s just the sweetest Velcro baby. If I move, she moves.”
Though Emily was trained as a doula for human births, this was her first time helping a cat — but Lou handled it like a pro. After a bit of a wait, she gave birth to four perfect kittens, all healthy and thriving.
“There are TWO PERFECT KITTENS!” Emily announced mid-delivery, before the count doubled. “She absolutely killed the birth. No problems at all.”
Now a proud mom, Lou is thriving — and so is Emily, who never expected to fall in love with a cat, let alone four. She’s decided to keep Lou and will find loving homes for the kittens once they’re ready.
Emily had shown up that day expecting to move into a new chapter of her life — and Lou made sure she wouldn’t do it alone.
