Minnie the dog happened to accidentally wander onto the property of 74-year-old William Henry Hinton. The Ruther Glen, Virginia man is accused of shooting the dog because she was on his property.
Sheriff Tony Lippa reports the shooting took place in a peaceful subdivision of Caroline County. The dog was not posing a threat nor menacing but Hinton opened fire on the animal.

The dog, named Minnie, was rushed to Virginia Veterinary Centers in Fredericksburg and then to a clinic for surgery. Unfortunately, the gunshot severely damaged Minnie’s leg so severely that her leg had to be amputated.
Thanks to a new Virginia law, certain animal abuse cases can be increased from a misdemeanor to a class 6 felony. As such, a five-year prison term is possible.
