When Nathan Timmel woke up one quiet morning in Iowa, he never expected to walk in on a full-blown heist in progress. But there it was — an intruder in his home, caught red-pawed with the loot.
The “criminal”? His neighbor’s dog, Lucky.
“Lucky made his way into my house to pilfer toys,” Timmel told The Dodo with a laugh.
Apparently, Lucky had slipped inside like a seasoned pro, making his way straight for the stash of dog toys. But his getaway didn’t go quite as smoothly — Timmel caught him in the act, toy clamped triumphantly in his mouth.
Video footage shows Lucky proudly trotting toward the door, tail wagging like he just pulled off the world’s cutest caper.
But the furry bandit wasn’t working alone.
Timmel soon discovered that Lucky’s partner in crime — another neighbor pup named Margot — had also snuck in. She just wasn’t on camera.
“She was too busy sniffing everything to steal anything,” Timmel joked.
Turns out, these little break-ins aren’t rare occurrences.
“Both dogs are in and out of our house non-stop when the doggy door is in,” Timmel said. “It happens randomly.”
Meanwhile, Timmel’s own dog, Alexander Puppington, was completely unaware that her favorite toy had been stolen.
She wasn’t home at the time — she was off visiting another neighbor’s dog.
In fact, the whole neighborhood seems to have turned into one big canine social club, with dogs swapping homes, toys, and friendship on the daily.
Timmel wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Lucky and Margot are both welcome whenever they want to visit,” he said.
And as for Alexander’s stolen toy? Timmel just laughs it off.
“It’s all part of the back-and-forth,” he said.
Because in this neighborhood, sharing — and a little harmless thievery — is just part of the fun.
