Man Has Been Sharing His Car With a Giant Spider for Over a Year

Christopher Taylor may look like he's driving solo around Australia — but he’s had an eight-legged copilot riding shotgun for the past year.

Meet Steve, an enormous huntsman spider who’s made Taylor’s car her full-time home.

“She just showed up one day while I was stopped at a traffic light,” Taylor told LADbible. “She was on the dashboard. I figured, why not let her stay?”

Huntsman spiders aren’t dangerous to humans, so Taylor opted not to evict her. Since then, Steve has become a permanent — and surprisingly well-behaved — passenger.

Most of the time, Steve keeps a low profile, hiding under the sun visor. But even with her stealthy habits, she’s hard to miss.

Over the past year, Taylor says she’s doubled in size — and she was never small to begin with.

Passengers who ride in Taylor’s car are often startled when they spot her.

“They usually scream,” Taylor admitted. “But honestly, Steve helps keep me alert behind the wheel.”

While she may eventually crawl off in search of new adventures, for now, Steve seems perfectly content in her unusual little habitat.

And Taylor? He’s just happy to share the ride.

“Driving’s a lot more exciting with her around,” he said.
