A Lakewood, California man was arrested after he shot a 15-year-old dog to death in a gutter, which was captured on surveillance video.
23-year-old Shane Michael Dubyak was sentenced to five years in state prison after he pleaded no contest to animal cruelty and admitted to using a revolver to commit the crime.
Under a plea deal, he’s also prohibited from caring or owning any animals for ten years.
The dog was a Terrier named Artie, whom had been left in Dubyak’s care.
Dubyak was caught on video getting out of the passenger side of an SUV on Phoebe Avenue in La Mirada, putting the senior Terrier on the side of the road, and shooting him.
Police eventually located the SUV, in which Dubyak then led cops on a pursuit before he was stopped and taken into custody.
The driver of the SUV during the crime was also arrested, but was later released pending further investigation.
