When Girly suddenly disappeared from sight, her mom, Breanne W., grew puzzled. The big brown rescue pup wasn’t behind the couch, by the window, or in any of her usual napping spots.
Just as Breanne was about to continue her search, her baby began to cry. She paused to take care of him, figuring the Girly hunt would have to wait.
But then, something caught her eye.
Among the rows of children’s toys — dolls, stuffed animals, and unblinking plastic eyes — was another pair of eyes. Ones Breanne knew all too well.
“I nearly screamed,” Breanne recalled.

There was Girly, perfectly camouflaged between the crib and a giant stuffed giraffe. She blended in so well that Breanne almost didn’t believe what she was seeing.
“I physically almost jumped out of the rocking chair,” Breanne said. “It reminded me of the scene in ET where he’s hiding among all the stuffed animals in the closet.”
Once the shock wore off, Breanne couldn’t stop laughing. She shouted for her husband to come upstairs, and even he didn’t notice Girly until the pup shifted a little.

It turns out, Girly had a good reason to be in the nursery. She adores her baby brother and rarely lets him out of her sight.
“She loves the baby,” Breanne explained. “We often joke that it’s her baby! She sleeps beside his crib if she hears him stir, tries to clean him up if he spits up, and if he’s napping, she’s always right there beside him.”

For Girly, hiding in the toy pile wasn’t a prank — it was simply another way to stay close to the little human she loves so much.
Though she nearly gave her mom a heart attack with her camouflage skills, one thing about Girly could never be hidden: her devotion to her family.
