When Meagan Hanley, founder of A Place for Ace rescue in Massachusetts, first saw Kleo’s photo, she didn’t hesitate — this dog needed saving.
Kleo was sitting on the euthanasia list at a Texas shelter, having already been adopted and returned once. Time was running out, and Hanley worried that her unusual face — a charmingly crooked snout and a quirky underbite — might make people pass her by again.

“She had something special about her,” Hanley recalled. “I knew we had to get her out of there.”
Soon after, Kleo made the long journey to Massachusetts, where she quickly settled into her foster home in Boston.
From the very first day, Kleo proved that she’s the definition of adaptable. After everything she’s endured, new surroundings don’t scare her — she dives right in with unshakable enthusiasm.

“Kleo makes the most out of every day,” said foster mom Brianne Miers. “When I open her crate in the morning, it’s like she’s shot out of a cannon. She’s full of energy, curious about every smell, every sound — and so smart.”

Miers has fostered plenty of dogs before, but none quite like Kleo. Her slightly crooked smile and joyful snort when she’s excited make her unforgettable. Sure, she might splash a little while drinking or crunch her treats in her own unique way, but she’s just a normal, happy, healthy dog who hasn’t the slightest idea she looks “different.”

People on the street might do a double take, but Kleo just keeps trotting along, tail wagging, focused on her next adventure.
Unfortunately, that same unique look may be the reason she’s still waiting for her forever home.
“Kleo came up on transport with 20 other dogs, and they all found homes pretty quickly,” Miers explained. “She hasn’t gotten much interest — yet.”

But Kleo isn’t for just anyone. She’s looking for an active family — one with older kids, no cats, and plenty of time for running, hiking, or puzzle toys to keep her mind busy. She’s bright, athletic, and happiest when she’s got a job to do or a new trail to explore.
“She’s not the dog most adopters picture when they start looking,” Miers admitted. “It’s going to take someone special — someone who values her energy, her intelligence, and yes, her crooked little smile.”

In the meantime, Kleo is soaking up life — romping through her foster home, discovering new smells, and charming everyone she meets.
“She’s so inspiring,” Miers said. “She has the potential to touch a lot of lives. I know the right family is out there — and when they find her, it’s going to be magic.”
