While soaking up the sun at a peaceful beach in Panama, Brend Glez noticed something strange lying in the sand. Amid the usual waves and breeze, her eyes locked onto a dark, peculiar figure — sprawled out and motionless, its form tangled in what looked like black tendrils.
From a distance, the sight was eerie. The figure’s back was turned, and its limbs looked like they belonged in a ghost story. Naturally, Glez pulled out her phone and filmed the strange scene.
When she later posted the footage to TikTok, it didn’t take long for viewers to sound off.
“What is THAT?!” one person wrote.
“I thought this was something paranormal,” said another.
It seemed the internet was convinced Glez had stumbled upon something supernatural.
But the truth? It couldn’t have been more down to earth.

The spooky “creature” lounging in the sand was none other than Glez’s pup, blissfully rolling around and soaking in the sun. Thanks to the angle and lighting, Lolita’s relaxed pose created a perfectly creepy optical illusion — one that convinced thousands of people they were seeing something otherworldly.
“I was just as surprised by everyone’s reactions,” Glez told The Dodo. “To me, it’s clearly Lolita having a good time. But apparently, I accidentally scared all of TikTok.”
Though she may look like a sea monster from a distance, up close Lolita is nothing but soft fur, wagging tail, and beach-loving joy.
“She’d probably be thrilled if she knew how famous she’s become,” Glez joked. “She’d demand chicken treats by the dozen.”
As it turns out, all it took was one happy dog, a sandy nap, and just the right camera angle to set the internet abuzz. But in the end, there was nothing paranormal about it — just a pup living her best life by the sea.
