Normally, when a dog goes missing, no resources are spared by her owner to relocate her and bring her home. That is why dogs wear collars and are microchipped. But sometimes a story that should be simple, is anything but.
When a Pit Bull mix, named Blue, ended up at the Humane Society in Michigan, no one was exactly sure how she ended up in the area. She was picked up as a stray.
When she was scanned for a microchip, the volunteers were ecstatic to learn that she had a chip and that the information was current. What they weren’t prepared for was how far she had traveled from home.

Blue was from Southern Florida!
When staffers called the registered owner, the woman said that Blue had been missing for an entire week and was completely perplexed as to how she got all the way to Michigan.
Regardless, she said she wanted her 1-year-old puppy back and seemed delighted to know she was safe and they would soon be reunited.

Obviously, the journey was a long one– so the shelter shared a post on social media, asking for someone to volunteer to take Blue back home. They didn’t expect so many applicants.
The trip, a whopping 1300 miles, wouldn’t be easy but still, so many people were eager to get the sweet puppy back home.
The shelter finally chose Stephanie James out of the hundreds of applicants. Stephanie was thrilled. She took vacation time off from work and asked her brother to tag along for the long road trip. When Stephanie finally met Blue in person, she was amazed. Blue was beautiful and loving.

What also amazed Stephanie was despite the fact that she just met Blue, Blue would continuously rest her head on her in the car on the way to Florida.
Her disposition was so special. She knew anyone who lost a dog like Blue had to be thrilled to get her back.

Finally, after driving 1300 miles, Stephanie, her brother and Blue arrived at her owner’s house. The owner’s mother let them inside. Blue immediately knew where she was.
She did a lap around the house and gave everything a proper sniff. She seemed happy to be home. The owner’s mother instructed them to wait, that Blue’s owner would be home from work any moment. Nothing could prepare them for what happened next.
An hour later, Blue’s owner walked through the door. The dog was thrilled to see her; she jumped all around and gave her owner a proper doggy greeting.
The owner told Stephanie and her brother that while she wasn’t exactly sure what happened the day Blue went missing, she had her suspicions.

While Blue’s owner was at work all day, Blue lived in a backyard kennel.
She said that Blue had been taken before and said it could have been that same person, or that Blue somehow got out and ran to the highway and was picked up by a long distance traveler who made his way to Michigan.
Again, no one was completely sure. But it was what came next that floored Stephanie.
Blue’s owner explained that she goes to school full time and works, and with the little time she had, she felt Blue would be better off going back to Michigan.
WAIT. WHAT?! Why wasn’t this just explained on the phone? Why have Stephanie drive all the way there just to be told to turn back around?
The whole situation was infuriating, however Stephanie would rather take the dog back with her than leave her with someone who didn’t really want her.
So… Stephanie, her brother, and Blue got back into the car to head back to Michigan. Imagine Blue’s confusion. She had just gotten home and now she was leaving again.

While the trio made the trip home, the Humane Society posted Blue’s fascinating (and odd) update online. They immediately asked for adopters.
Stephanie would have loved to have adopted Blue but she already had too many animals to legally do so.
Applications came flooding in. Quickly, but thoroughly, the shelter chose the perfect match for Blue. A man, named Robert Allison, had put down his beloved Pit Bull six months earlier and had been searching for a new dog. It was a match made in heaven.

By the time Blue arrived back in Michigan, Robert was already there to take her home. This made the transition less traumatic.
Blue immediately took to Robert. She jumped right on him and happily followed him back to her new home. The best part: Robert has a young son and Blue bonded to him right away too!
The story didn’t exactly end as most would expect. But Blue is right where she belongs.
