Rescuer Braves Traffic To Save Dog Living On Highway Exit

While driving off a Los Angeles freeway recently, one motorist noticed something unusual poking out of the brush along the exit ramp — two small, black ears.

At first, they thought it might be a coyote. But when the animal lifted her head, the truth became clear: it was a dog, alone and terrified by the rushing traffic around her.

The German shepherd mix had been surviving near the highway for weeks, watching car after car speed past. This time, though, someone stopped. The driver quickly posted her location online, and a team of animal lovers rushed to help.

“Everyone came out trying to get her,” said Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29.

But the frightened pup bolted, vanishing into the chaos of the freeway. When news spread the next day about a major crash on that stretch of road, rescuers feared she hadn’t made it.

Hall kept checking with neighbors near the exit ramp, hoping for good news. Finally, days later, the message she’d been waiting for arrived: the shepherd was back.

“I raced up there,” Hall said.

When she arrived, she spotted the dog curled up in her familiar hiding place. With cars whizzing dangerously close, Hall had only moments to act.

“It was so dangerous for her and for me,” Hall said. “I literally had to dodge cars to get to her with my trap. One wrong move, and it wouldn’t have been safe for either of us.”

Hall carefully set her trap and waited. Soon after, she returned to find the door closed — and the scared pup finally safe inside.

“I literally cried,” Hall admitted.

Hall named her Miracle, a fitting title for a dog who had survived the freeway’s constant dangers. Miracle was taken straight to Camino Pet Hospital for a checkup, where she was cleared to begin the next chapter of her life.

Now living with a foster mom, Miracle is still shy but slowly learning what safety feels like.

“The fast cars and sounds of the freeway are behind her,” Hall said. “The lonely nights, the worries, the fear — that’s all in her past. Tonight, she’s safe and sleeping with relief.”

Miracle is now looking for her forever family — one who can give her the love and peace she’s always deserved.
