Earlier this month, a concerned passerby walked into Ten Lives Club, a New York-based animal rescue, with a troubling report. Just outside in the parking lot, they’d spotted a cardboard Amazon box — and it was moving.
Rescue workers immediately rushed outside. Sure enough, there it was: a beat-up, taped-up box with something stirring inside. Carefully peeling back a flap, they discovered three tiny kittens, huddled together and shaking with fear.
“The kittens were terrified and starving,” said Kimberly LaRussa, the rescue’s public relations manager. “There was a cat bed inside too, so we knew this wasn’t an accident — someone meant to leave them.”
Heartbroken, the team scanned the area and soon spotted the kittens’ mother watching anxiously from a distance. With patience and care, they were able to bring her to safety too, reuniting the family inside the shelter.
The feline family was later transported to Ten Lives Club’s main facility in Blasdell, New York, where they received medical attention and a fresh start. The mother cat is now resting at the shelter, awaiting her forever home.
As for the kittens — now named Dina, Abby, and Ellie — they found a temporary haven at a local business called Thin Ice. The shop’s owner, a long-time foster volunteer, created a cozy display space by the window where passersby can admire the playful trio basking in the sunlight.
“They’re thriving,” LaRussa said. “The future is very bright for these kittens. They’ll be matched with loving families soon — but for now, they’re just enjoying kittenhood.”
