Suzette Hall has seen more than her share of heartbreak. As a full-time dog rescuer in Los Angeles and the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, she’s used to helping dogs found wandering the streets alone. But the dog she met over the weekend hadn’t wandered anywhere — he’d been left behind on purpose.

The small, scruffy pup was found tied to a pole in a quiet residential neighborhood, trapped on the sidewalk with nowhere to go. All night long, he sat there frightened and confused, watching people walk past without stopping to help.
“He was there all night, tied to that pole,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “I seriously can’t believe how many people just did nothing.”

As if being abandoned wasn’t enough, a pack of coyotes roamed the area that night. Still, the little dog somehow managed to survive, despite his size and the leash anchoring him in place.
When Hall finally arrived, she was stunned by the pup’s gentle spirit and quiet bravery.
“What a sweet baby who did nothing to deserve that,” she wrote. “I told him we would figure it all out.”

Hall named the dog Piñata, untied him from the pole, and lifted him into her van. Almost immediately, Piñata seemed to understand that he was safe.

“The best part,” Hall shared, “is that he knew it was going to be OK and fell asleep on the way to my vet.”
At Camino Pet Hospital, Piñata received a full medical exam — and passed with flying colors. After a warm bath and some much-needed rest, he headed off to a foster home where he could finally relax.

Now safe and thriving, Piñata is showing everyone just how sweet he is.
“He is so sweet and kind,” Hall told The Dodo.

Piñata will soon be available for adoption, and his rescuers are confident the perfect family is out there waiting for him. Until then, he’s soaking up love, enjoying his foster home, and flashing the grateful smiles that say everything.
“He is beyond grateful to be rescued,” Hall said. “Just look at his smile now.”
