It was just an ordinary day at Happy Cat Cafe in Grand Rapids, Michigan — until something unusual happened.
An employee heard the doorbell chime, but no customers appeared at the counter. Puzzled, they listened closely — and that’s when they heard a loud meow.
When they checked the security footage, they saw exactly what had happened: someone had opened the door, tossed a cat inside, and quickly left. On the video, the cat, clearly startled, turned back toward the door before running deeper into the café in search of a safe place to hide.
Thankfully, two quick-thinking employees spotted the frightened newcomer, later named Dumpling, and gently got her into a carrier.
Poor Dumpling was confused and scared, but she was in good hands. The café staff immediately reached out to their rescue partner, Fig and Friends Pet Rescue, who stepped in to help.

“She was understandably scared but overall in okay condition — no obvious injuries, just frightened and confused,” said Kati Quarto, owner of Happy Cat Cafe.

Dumpling was placed into a foster home where she could relax and recover from her scary experience. While no one knows why she was abandoned, one thing was clear: she'd found her way to exactly the right place.
Once she was feeling better, Dumpling joined the other adoptable cats at the café — and it wasn’t long before she captured someone’s heart.

“We’re so happy to share that she was adopted today along with another kitty, Luna! Her new name is Raya,” Quarto shared.
From a terrifying start to a brand-new beginning, Dumpling’s story proves that sometimes even the roughest moments can lead to the happiest endings.
