Shelter Cat Comforts Herself With Stuffed Lambs While She Waits for a Home

When Lambinator — lovingly known as Lamby — arrived at Austin Pets Alive! in August 2023, it didn’t take long for her rescuers to notice something special about her. Among all the toys in the shelter, Lamby had a clear favorite: stuffed lambs.

Over time, Lamby has built quite the collection — she now has 10 plush lambs, and the pile keeps growing. For Lamby, they’re more than toys — they’re comfort, a soft reminder of what she’s missing: a home of her own.

“The longer she stays with us, the bigger her lamb collection gets,” said Luis Sanchez, APA!’s director of public relations and communications. “If someone doesn’t adopt her soon, we might be overrun with stuffed lambs in the cattery!”

Despite the love and care she receives at the shelter, life there has become increasingly stressful for Lamby. She’s spent time in several foster homes, but what she really needs is a stable, forever family — and she keeps getting passed by.

Lamby may require a bit of extra care, which has likely contributed to her being overlooked. But her personality more than makes up for it.

“She’s playful, curious, and turns anything into a toy,” Sanchez said. “She even loves splashing around in tubs of water!”

Lamby adores people — kids and adults alike — and gets along well with other cats and even dogs of all sizes. She’s just as happy curled up in a lap as she is perched on a shoulder, watching the world from above.

At her core, Lamby is a joyful spirit who just wants to be loved. Shelter life has taken its toll, and her caretakers are hoping someone will recognize the gem she is and give her the home she’s been waiting for.

“She’d thrive in any home where someone is willing to give a little extra care and a lot of love,” Sanchez said.
