An evil human tortured Shortcake by shooting her feat, then tried to kill her by shooting her in the chest, with the bullet landing right by her spine.
Coco’s House Senior Sanctuary and Rescue found Shortcake lying underneath a shed. They think that she crawled under their to have her last moments, thinking that she was going to die.

But thankfully she was found in time and rushed to the animal hospital.
This isn’t just abuse, it’s torture. And Shortcakes torture began long before she was shot.
She was also extremely malnourished, which leads rescuers to believe she had been neglected for a long time.

The vets tried their best to save what they could of Shortcake’s feet, but the tendons were severed, the bones were too shattered and there wasn’t blood flow to either foot.
Sadly, she had to have her feet amputated with countless surgeries.
She is now recovering with casts and bandages on her legs, and will soon be fitted for prosthetic feet.

Despite everything she has been through, she remains in good spirits and is extremely sweet and loves everyone she meets.
“Just look at this girl and her smile,” the rescue wrote. “One cannot tell us she isn’t happy. She is worthy, she is worthy of life. After all she has endured, she is now going to thrive and be loved. Are you prepared for her journey? We know we are. Our hearts are so full right now. Shortcake has the moon and so many hearts. We love you baby girl!!”

In the meantime, Shortcake is healing and undergoing physical therapy, which includes icing, laser therapy and rehabilitation.
The physical therapists are working with her on using her legs to move rather than army crawling like she wants to do. She is making huge progress every day towards her new legs.
