While out for a walk in the Philippines, a group of people noticed a peculiar plastic box abandoned on the side of the road. It was patched with tape, had sections cut out, and was partially covered with chicken wire.
Curious and concerned, they moved closer — and were stunned to see a tiny face peering out from behind the wire.

The animal inside didn’t even look real. Emaciated, nearly hairless, and clearly suffering, she was unrecognizable at first glance. But as the group gently freed her from the box, they realized she was a dog — one in urgent need of help.
They immediately contacted Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), who arrived to take the dog, later named Daisy, into their care. It was clear that her road to recovery would be long, but the AKF team was determined to help her heal.

“When we first met Daisy, she was silent and visibly terrified — almost as if she’d already given up,” said Heidi M. Caguioa, program director at AKF. “She seemed indifferent, like she didn’t know what to expect anymore.”
Daisy was rushed to a veterinarian, where she began treatment for severe skin infections and received the first comfort she’d likely known in a long time. Slowly, as her body healed, so did her spirit.
With love, patience, and consistent care, Daisy began to transform. Her fur grew back, her energy returned, and her true personality started to shine.

Today, Daisy is unrecognizable from the fragile creature found in that taped-up box. She’s affectionate, playful, and finally safe.
“She loves being cuddled and being close to people,” Caguioa said. “She’s still a little shy at first, but once she warms up, she’s all love.”

Daisy has since found her forever family — a perfect match who had been searching for a dog just like her. She’s thriving in her new home, surrounded by warmth and care, and her past is now firmly behind her.
