When a frightened stray cat found himself trapped on a fourth-story fire escape of a Boston brownstone, he had no idea help was on the way — or that it would change his life forever.
The cat, later named Cosmo, had been stranded for over 12 hours when a local pet sitter named Julie arrived on the scene.
A neighbor, Stephanie, who’d been feeding Cosmo on the streets for months, had reached out to Julie for help. Though Cosmo clearly wanted to be rescued, his fear of humans made things difficult.
“What’d you do, honey?” Julie gently asked in a TikTok video. “Can I come see you?”
With the rickety old fire escape adding to the urgency, the two women teamed up, determined to bring Cosmo to safety.
When Julie got too close, Cosmo darted to the neighboring platform — forcing her to get creative. Then, she had an idea.
She accessed another apartment and came up with a plan: Stephanie would stay put while Julie slowly guided Cosmo in her direction.
Nervously retreating, Cosmo finally did what they’d hoped — he backed right through Stephanie’s open window and into the safety of her home.
The rescue took 90 tense minutes, but the moment Cosmo was inside, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately took cover under the bed, but no one minded. For the first time in a long while, Cosmo was warm, safe — and loved.
“He’s inside, warm, safe, and Stephanie is keeping him,” Julie shared.
A week later, when Julie visited, Cosmo was still a little shy but visibly more at ease. By the end of that same day, he bravely climbed up on the bed for the first time.
Thanks to two determined women and a leap of faith, Cosmo now has a second chance at life — and a forever home.
