In the middle of a flooded Houston bayou, a pair of frightened eyes blinked through the murky water. A tiny puppy — soaked, shivering, and barely holding on — was clinging to a tangle of reeds, fighting to stay above the current.

A passerby spotted the small shape struggling in the water and knew there wasn’t a moment to lose. Wading into the bayou, the Good Samaritan scooped the trembling pup into their arms and carried him to safety.

The puppy, later named Eddy, was taken to CAMO Rescue, where staff could hardly believe how close he’d come to losing his life.
“He was very scared and snappy, but has calmed down with some decompression time,” said Holly Dool, founder and president of CAMO Rescue.

“We felt so sorry for him. We wondered if he was dumped or a stray.”
For the first time in who knows how long, Eddy had a warm bed, a full meal, and gentle hands to care for him. Slowly, the tension faded from his tiny body.
Before long, his playful spirit began to shine.
“He likes to do zoomies in the yard,” Dool said with a laugh. “And he loves kids!”

Now that Eddy’s healthy and happy again, he’s ready to find a family of his own — one that will never leave him behind. He’s crate trained, enjoys being outside, and gets along beautifully with other dogs.
According to his rescuers, Eddy adores people and will often curl up close to anyone he trusts — a reminder of how far he’s come from that terrifying day in the bayou.
With a little luck, Eddy will soon be snuggled up in the arms of his forever family, where he’ll never have to cling to reeds for safety again.
