Trio of Abandoned Dogs Refused to Leave Each Other's Side While Waiting for Help

A resident in Southern California recently made a heartbreaking call to Logan’s Legacy, a local dog rescue, after spotting three abandoned pups wandering the neighborhood. The caller had noticed the dogs sticking tightly together, never straying far from one another.

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, wasn’t able to get there immediately — but luckily, some nearby volunteers were. When they arrived, they found the dogs exactly as described: pressed closely together, motionless, and alert. It was clear they weren’t going anywhere.

“They were just sitting on the corner, completely still, backs against each other like they were guarding one another,” Hall told The Dodo. “They hadn’t moved at all. They were waiting for their family to come back.”

But their family wasn’t coming back.

Neighbors told Hall’s team they had watched the pups be abandoned near Magic Johnson Park in Los Angeles. After being let out of a car, the trio darted into the park, narrowly avoiding traffic. From that moment on, they waited. Days passed.

“They ran for cover in the park and never left each other’s side,” Hall said. “They kept hoping someone would return.”

When rescuers arrived, the morning heat was rising. The dogs briefly left their post in search of shade, choosing to curl up together under a parked car. Still, they remained glued to one another — three inseparable souls trying to survive the only way they knew how: together.

Typically, Hall’s team uses humane traps to catch frightened strays. But these dogs surprised them.

“We tried holding out some food in our hands,” Hall said. “To our amazement, they came right over.”

The only female of the group walked over first, trusting immediately. Once she was safely inside the van, her two brothers didn’t hesitate — they climbed in right after her.

“They couldn’t bear to be without their sister,” Hall said.

Inside the van, the rescuers got a closer look. The pups were in rough shape — severely matted, covered in ticks, and clearly neglected.

“They each had at least 40 ticks on them,” Hall said. “It was awful.”

Despite their condition, the dogs were calm — just grateful to be together. One of the volunteers took them home for the night. As expected, they remained side-by-side the entire ride, and curled up together the moment they arrived.

“They didn’t leave each other once,” Hall said. “Even when sleeping.”

The next step was shaving down their fur to remove the ticks and matting. As soon as their coats were cleaned up, they perked up — visibly relieved. But their favorite comfort wasn’t physical — it was each other.

Hall has seen many dogs rely on companionship for survival on the streets. Often, those bonds fade after rescue. But this trio was different.

“Usually, once they’re safe, they go their separate ways,” she explained. “But not these three. They’re truly bonded. If one goes out to potty, the others cry until they come back.”

The dogs — now named Polly, Damien, and Barkley — are currently in foster care. Their next chapter? Hopefully, a forever home that will welcome them together.

“It would be a dream if someone adopted all three,” Hall said. “They’re just the sweetest.”

Polly, Damien, and Barkley may have been left behind once, but thanks to each other — and the kindness of strangers — they never gave up hope. And now, they’re on their way to the life they’ve always deserved.
