When communications technician Andre Souza Santana climbed up a ladder to work on some overhead cables in Brazil, he expected nothing more than a normal day at work. But a few minutes later, his routine turned into something unforgettable — and adorably unexpected.
As Santana focused on his task, a flash of color caught his eye. Out of nowhere, a blue-and-yellow macaw swooped in and landed beside him on the utility pole, watching curiously as he worked.
“It was something I wasn’t expecting,” Santana told The Dodo. “Out of nowhere, she appeared and landed next to me.”
Santana’s coworker captured the scene:
From the ground, Santana’s coworker filmed the incredible moment — a man in a bright yellow uniform high above the street, sharing space with one of South America’s most striking wild birds.
Perhaps noticing that Santana’s vest matched her vibrant feathers, the macaw seemed to decide he was a friend.
“After a while, she sat on my shoulder and started snuggling me,” Santana said.
For a few magical moments, the busy job site transformed into a scene of pure connection — a wild parrot nestled against a smiling worker, neither of them in any hurry to move.
“It was the first time I’d encountered one,” Santana said. “This will be an eternal memory. I will never forget that day.”
Blue-and-yellow macaws are native to the northern regions of South America and are famous for their intelligence, playfulness, and curiosity — qualities Santana got to experience firsthand.

What began as just another workday ended as a once-in-a-lifetime reminder that nature sometimes shows up when we least expect it — and leaves us with memories that stay forever.
