
A 41-year-old engineer named Drew Smith was looking for a Golden Retriever when he walked into a San Diego animal shelter a few months ago.
But after failing to find a dog of his choice, he reluctantly adopted Carl, a sickly 4-year-old Spaniel mix. Little did he know that the dog he was saving now would end up saving his life from a deadly fire!

One night, Drew was awakened from his sleep by the persistent and agonizing barks of Carl, who was otherwise a very “quiet” dog.
Drew ignored the barks at first, but then he remembered that Carl had been acting strange all day. He turned on the lights in a panicked state and was horrified to see smoke billowing from the walls.

Thanks to the bark-alarm, Drew managed to grab Carl in his arms and escape his apartment just before flames started erupting from every corner.
