A few weeks ago, as Oksana Krasan was heading home from work in Limassol, Cyprus, she noticed a small group of people gathered around a cardboard box on the side of the road near her apartment.
Curious, she walked over — and what she saw inside the box stopped her in her tracks.
Three newborn kittens, eyes still closed and bodies trembling, were huddled together and crying out for help.
“It was clear someone had abandoned them,” Krasan wrote in a Facebook post. “They were so tiny, so weak, and desperately crying.”
Krasan and the other bystanders searched nearby for the mother cat, hoping she might return. But after a while, it became painfully obvious: the kittens had been discarded by someone who didn’t want them. Hours passed. No one stepped forward to take the kittens in, and the tiny cries continued.
“I just couldn’t bear to hear them suffer anymore,” Krasan told The Dodo. That’s when she decided — if no one else would help, she would.
She rushed to a local vet to buy kitten formula and get advice on how to care for such young babies. Back at home, she transformed her bathroom into a cozy nursery and enlisted a friend to help with round-the-clock feedings.
Caring for the kittens wasn’t easy. They needed to be fed every few hours, helped to go to the bathroom, and gradually taught to use a litter box. But Krasan was all in.
“I made the decision to take them, and I couldn’t let them down,” she said. “I had to do everything I could to help them survive and find loving homes.”
Day by day, the kittens began to grow stronger. As they gained weight and confidence, their playful personalities started to shine through.
“They’re incredibly sweet and playful, just like kittens should be,” Krasan said with a smile.
Once they were healthy enough, Krasan began posting about them online, hoping to find forever homes. The response was overwhelming — dozens of people expressed interest in adopting. But Krasan isn’t in a rush. She’s determined to find only the most loving families for the kittens who once had nothing.
“I’ve gotten a lot of messages,” she said. “But I’m doing home checks to make sure they go to the right people. I want to know they’ll be safe and loved.”
Thanks to her compassion, three little lives have been given a second chance — and they’ll never have to cry for help again.
