Tina Holland was enjoying a routine lunch break, walking her three dogs near her office in Texas, when something unexpected caught their attention. Curious, she followed their gaze — and what she saw stopped her in her tracks.

“There, crawling on her belly and shaking, was the tiniest puppy I’d ever seen,” Holland told The Dodo. “She looked terrified and completely helpless.”
It didn’t take long for Holland to realize what had happened.
Just feet away from the puppy was a cardboard box sitting beside a dumpster. Inside were a pee pad and a small toy — heartbreaking clues that someone had left the little dog behind.
“It crushed me to think that someone abandoned her there, just 75 feet from a busy road,” Holland said. “She was so vulnerable.”
Without hesitation, Holland gently picked up the trembling puppy and nestled her into the safety of her hooded sweatshirt, letting her tiny head peek out for air. The pup clung to her warmth, still shivering — whether from fear or cold, Holland couldn’t be sure.

Back at the office, Holland gave the puppy some water and checked her for injuries. Amazingly, she seemed healthy and unharmed. Knowing she needed more than a temporary shelter, Holland contacted Dawgs Fight Back, a local rescue organization ready to help.
Soon after, the puppy — now named Peeka — was settling into her foster home, complete with new friends, playtime, and a whole lot of love.

“She’s fantastic,” said Alyson McDonnell, the rescue’s director. “Peeka has this sweet and goofy personality. She spends her mornings running with the big dogs, chasing bugs or just being silly.”

Peeka is thriving in foster care, and rescuers believe she’ll make a perfect companion for an active family — especially one with kids or another dog to keep her company.
“She gets along with everyone,” McDonnell said. “She just loves to be loved.”
Once abandoned and alone, Peeka now has a bright future ahead — and she’s just waiting for the right person to come along and give her the forever home she deserves.
