Last week, Scarlet de Lemeny went out for a quiet birthday brunch with her fiancé. It should have been a happy morning — but for Scarlet, birthdays always stir up deep emotions.
“I had been crying,” Scarlet told The Dodo. “Birthdays are emotional for me.”
As she wiped her tears, something remarkable happened.

Out of nowhere, a tiny bird flew straight into one of the restaurant’s large windows, then fell softly to the ground, stunned.
“No one knew what to do,” Scarlet said. “But I grew up with birds and love animals, so I wanted to help.”
She gently approached the little bird — and to everyone’s surprise, he fluttered up and landed right in her hand.
“It only made me more emotional seeing how trusting the bird was of me,” Scarlet said. “He nestled onto my fingers and slept through my entire meal. I ate one-handed.”
Here’s a clip from that touching moment:
For several minutes, the small bird rested peacefully, gathering his strength as Scarlet kept him safe. Eventually, he woke up, fluffed his feathers, and took a few sips of her water before he was ready to go.
Scarlet carried him outside and placed him gently on a nearby branch. After a brief pause, he took off into the sky.

But the encounter left something behind — a quiet kind of peace that Scarlet hadn’t expected to find that day.
“We were both feeling low, the bird and I,” she said. “And in that moment, we helped each other. It reminded me that life is full of little joys if you know where to look. I was sad on my birthday and needed comfort — and in helping him, I somehow found it.”
