10-Year-Old, Ohio Boy Raises More Than $315,000 To Provide Bulletproof Vests For Police Dogs

When Leah Tornabene sat down with her son to watch an episode of Live PD two years ago, she had no idea that the trajectory of their lives was about to change forever.

As the pair watched the drama unfold as police, K9, and criminal came face to face, 8-year-old aspiring police officer Brady Snakovsky noticed something was amiss. Despite the fact all the handlers were wearing protective gear, their K9 counterparts all seemed to go without. This didn’t make sense to Brady who immediately decided to do something about it.

With the help and support of his mom, Brady started a GoFundMe page appealing to friends, families, and animal lovers alike in hopes to make a change.

Thanks to the generosity of a kind few, Brady soon reached his first goal and was able to buy 4 vests; all of which were donated to the brave pooches over at the Ohio state trooper police department.

Determined to do more; Brandon didn’t stop there, he began frequenting community events to fundraise and raise awareness and even wrote to several members of Congress to ask for their support.

Soon the ‘Brady K9 fund’ was born, a non-profit organization committed to providing police K9s with the safety and protection they rightly deserve.

Having raised over 315,000 dollars and supplying almost 300 dogs with vests, (even some military pooches serving in Afghanistan!) It’s safe to say the organization is doing a fantastic job. Speaking on her son and their journey thus far, Leah said:

I was quite surprised that a child at age eight could recognize that there was an issue and that he could find a solution to fix that problem. It made me very proud to see him doing this.

Leah also went on to say that most people don’t realize that police forces have to rely on the help of donations for their K9 units, so every dollar matters – making Brady’s hundreds of thousands of dollars even more impressive.

And if you think Brady is amazing then, you’re not wrong, the formidable 10-year-old has also helped create a dog park in his hometown of Brunswick that is closed one day a week to give police dogs a chance to train with their handlers.

How cool is that?!

Unsurprisingly, Brandon can’t wait to be a police officer when he grows up, and although it might be early days,  it seems to us that when it comes to serving and protecting the community, this little hero might be just the man job!

Years before he’s able to become one though, he’s already keeping hundreds of dogs safe and says he hopes to help as many police dogs as he can in the near future.

‘I like seeing the smile on the handler’s face,’ he said.

Those wanting to donate can do so either through Brady’s GoFundMe page, which has so far raised more than $100,000 or via his website.
