World’s Oldest Living Golden Retriever Celebrates Her 20th Birthday

Ask any pet parent what one of their greatest wishes would be and most would likely want their dogs to live a long, healthy life.

Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt had their canine wish come true, as their pooch recently celebrated her 20th birthday.

The dog, a Golden Retriever named August (“Augie”), arrived at the couple’s home when she was 14 years old. She had been through two prior homes when they adopted her.

“They figured that most people wouldn’t want such an elderly golden, but they had no idea of the upcoming journey they would be on with Augie,” Golden Hearts Golden Retriever Rescue wrote.

“They’ve taken her on RV trips all around the country, she’s got several canine and feline siblings, and she gets to play fetch in the pool.”

Auggie is now believed to be the oldest known living Golden Retriever in history. In general, the average lifespan of the breed is 10 to 12 years.

Jennifer says despite her age, Auggie is “surprisingly healthy” although shaky on her feet when she first stands up. She walks around the yard and is living her best life!

Wishing you a happy birthday and many years ahead, Auggie!
