Pug Won’t Stop Howling In The Apartment, So Owner Posts A Note Explaining The Situation

Charleston Chew is a senior Pug who lives in an apartment complex in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, along with his owner, Sharla Wilson. They’d just moved there, and being an older dog, it was hard for Charleston to adjust to his new surroundings.

The 11-year-old Pug has cataracts and can’t see, so it was an even harder adjustment than it should’ve been.

Charleston is very close to his Mom and likes to know where she is at all times. Now that he’s blind, it’s very hard for him to keep track of her. And then you factor in the new apartment, and the dog’s anxiety started getting to him.

So every time Charleston can’t find Sharla, he howls. It’s a loud and constant shrieking sound, and she’s worried about her neighbors being bothered by all of the noise. If only she could explain the tough situation to each and every one of them in hopes they’d understand.

That’s when she got the idea to post a note as a sign to her door.

It reads: “My name is Charleston Chew and I’m very sorry for my howling. I’m an old man now, with cataracts, and sometimes I get real scared because I can’t see where I am and can’t find my mom. As I get used to my new place, I will start to settle down. Thanks for being patient with me. I don’t mean to be such a pain. Charleston Chew Pug — Apt 502”

The heartfelt sign was noticed by at least one person, 23-year-old neighbor Megan Jones. She doesn’t live on the same floor but accidentally took the elevator there one day and saw the note. So she took to the internet in support of Charleston Chew! 🙂

Her post picked up steam, and people from all over joined in adding their support. But since Charleston’s Mom didn’t have a Twitter account, she didn’t even know the story had gone viral! Once she found out, she made an accountright away for all of Charleston Chew’s fans!

Sharla shared a few words on what it’s like caring for her aging Pug: “He’s been my friend. He’s been everything. It’s heartbreaking to see him struggle, but I’m doing my best to accommodate him. It’s absolutely worth it. He’s been one of the greatest joys of my life.”

It sure sounds like Charleston has a great Mom, and we hope nothing but the best for the both of them going forward!
