Shannon Ackerman pulled into a Texaco gas station in Missouri City, Texas, after she’d just rescued a Husky and her two pups from a drain pipe by the highway. She was on her way home but needed gas, and that’s what led her to an abandoned dog who needed some help.

She was pumping gas when she felt something lick the back of her knee. She turned around to see a sad German Shepherd who looked like she just gave birth. The dog looked up at Shannon as if to say, “Can you please help me?”

The woman had her hands full with the Husky family but quickly tried to figure out where this stray had come from. She asked around but no one knew anything. Shannon then asked the gas station owner who said he saw someone dump the German Shepherd and speed away before he could do anything about it.

The stray, later named Mercy, was crying and whining to get into Shannon’s car. But she had no room with the Huskies and traps and supplies. It broke her heart, but she came up with an idea.

Shannon went back to the area where she rescued the Husky and her pups where Whitney Hartman, another dog lover, and rescuer, was still working. Shannon told her about the German Shepherd at the Texaco station, and Whitney was glad to help out. She arrived at the location, and as soon as she opened her car door, Mercy jumped right in! 🙂
Mercy was scanned for a microchip, but she didn’t have one. All she had was a dirty collar around her neck with no ID tags of any kind. The sweet pup kept nudging at Whitney’s hand as they drove back to her house. Whitney fed the German Shepherd and gave her a warm bed for the night and called around to find a foster home. She found one that specializes in German Shepherds called Sauver Des Chiens.
Mercy is currently doing well in her foster home! She’s sweet and friendly but also a little confused as she’s still looking for her puppies. The rescuers are still searching for them and willing to do whatever it takes to reunite them with their mother.
It’s also their top priority to find the best forever home possible for Mercy when the time comes so she can be showered with love and affection. She’ll never have to know the feeling of being thrown out like garbage ever again.
