A female dog was hit by a car and sadly died on a Texas rural road. But she wasn’t alone.
When Animal Control Officers arrived, they discovered a male dog who was sitting by the dead dog’s side, with his paw over her like he was guarding her body.

“This boy wasn’t going to let anyone mess with his sister,” Kingsville Kleberg Health Dept Animal Control & Care Center wrote on Facebook. “Our Animal Control Officers had a hard time convincing him everything was going to be all right and they were there to help him.”
While their department has seen many upsetting things, they say this call was one of the most heart-wrenching calls they’ve gotten.

The male dog, now named Guardian, is at the Animal Control & Care Center where he is being held on stray hold for the required four days.
Once those days are up, he will become available for adoption. Luckily, Guardian already has an adoption scheduled for that day if all goes well!
