Authorities in Butler County, Ohio responded to anonymous complaints that a 2-year-old Doberman Pinscher was being starved to death by his owner.
Police found the dog severely emaciated and with open sores all over his skeletal frame.
His owner named the dog Lucifer, but his rescuers renamed him Lou. Poor Lou was so hungry and without water that he ate rocks to try and fill his empty stomach.

The Animal Friends Humane Society took ownership of the dog and tried everything to nurse him back to health. They shared an update on their Facebook page with some images.
They stated, “His weight when he first arrived at Animal Friends on Monday was 51.9 pounds. He was up to 57.5 pounds yesterday, but has since dropped to 56.4. An ideal, healthy weight for him would be 75 pounds, so he still has a long way to go.”

Despite all of their efforts, Lou succumbed to his poor health from abuse and neglect just five days later. The Humane Society thanked everyone and asked for folks to take comfort that “Lou didn’t die alone, chained up in a backyard, left to fend for himself.”
The dog’s owner, David Neanover, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to a companion animal and sentenced to 180 days in jail on one cruelty charge and 90 days on the other.
