The staff at a hospital in Brazil had been noticing a particular “stray dog” outside their gates for quite a few months.

Eventually, they learned that the dog was not a stray, but the loyal pet of a recently deceased homeless patient.

The patient was brought in after being stabbed in a park, but he wasn’t able to survive.

Sadly, the dog had no way of knowing that his owner had passed away. He longingly waited at the doors every single day, scanning the face of every passerby in hopes of spotting his owner.

The hospital staff tried to bring the dog to a rescue, but the faithful boy refused to budge from his spot.

One of the city’s shelters painstakingly rescued the dog, but the anxious dog escaped his kennel and ran for miles to return to the hospital.

Currently, the staff members are feeding the dog. They hope that someone manages to convince the pooch to leave the hospital and start afresh with a new forever family.

Let’s put the word out and help this good boy find a forever home.

Update: The hospital recently updated that one of their staffers has earned the trust of the dog and will be adopting him after his routine vaccinations.

We are in awe of this sweet dog’s unconditional love for his owner, and hope that he learns to smile again in his new home.
