Pet ambulance fleet takes to the streets to help save animals’ lives

If you’ve ever had an emergency situation with your dog or cat, you know that every second counts. When you need to get your pet to an emergency care facility, there are countless challenges such as adhering to traffic laws and not having emergency medical equipment on hand. Someone finally came up with a solution to this problem that affects millions of pets and pet parents every year.

A fleet of three pet ambulances is now on-call in Hong Kong, China. What started as a modified small bus turned into a fully-equipped fleet of emergency vehicles designed to transport pets in need.

The service launched in March of 2019, and they received 12 calls in one month. This proves the need for this clever and timely service.

A variety of medical supplies, oxygen, and bandages to help the pets are on board.

According to Pet Ambulance director, Dominic Abraham Wong, they take both large and small pets to doctor’s appointments, checkups and provide on-the-spot care for emergencies.

“Our ambulance men have all attained first aid certificates [issued by] HK veterinary association and St. John. Their first aid skills can help lessen the pain for pets during emergency cases,” Wong shared.

Although it is not legal for a pet ambulance to use a siren, Wong is hoping city authorities will soon approve this. What an amazing idea!
