When Kelly Benzel saw a picture of a sweet white Pit Bull on Facebook, she fell in love. She knew she had to adopt the dog. Kelly noticed that Rocco looked healthy, but uncared for. She immediately knew she could give him the love he deserved.

Rocco had been living at his previous owner’s house, so Kelly went there to pick him up. As soon as she arrived and met Rocco, she knew something was terribly wrong.
The adorable Pit Bull had a huge gash where his harness had dug into his skin. When Kelly inspected the wound, she realized it was infected.
Kelly knew she had to get Rocco help right away, so she brought him to a vet who started treating him. Luckily, Rocco recovered pretty quickly, thanks to the vet’s care and Kelly’s love.

Of course, Kelly couldn’t stop thinking about what poor Rocco had been through. She was devastated that her wonderful dog had suffered abuse at the hands of his previous owners — and she wasn’t going to stand for it.

Instead of just moving on and forgetting about Rocco’s past, Kelly notified police about what happened. According to USA Today, Rocco’s former owner was sentenced to time in jail for his abusive actions toward Rocco!

Although it’s heartbreaking to know what Rocco went through, it’s great that his previous owner had to face the consequences for what he did.
