Firefighters Rescue Tiny Puppy Trapped In Basement As Home Burns To The Ground

A Virginia woman is thanking firefighters after they saved her puppy from her burning Hopewell home. Hopewell Fire and Rescue was sent to her home after it was engulfed in flames with smoke pouring out of it.

The homeowner, Lauren Smith, wasn’t there when the fire started, but when she arrived home, her first thought was to save her dog. She tried to go in and rescue the pup on her own, but to no avail. The heavy smoke was too much for her.

That’s when firefighters arrived at the scene and were told that Smith’s dog, Yoda, was still inside. Crews quickly battled the flames as they made their way into the basement where Yoda was found.

Thankfully, she was awake and breathing on her own and brought to Hopewell Animal Services to be medically examined.

Yoda is doing well and has since been reunited with Smith, who is extremely grateful that her furry best friend survived.

Crews were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes of arriving on scene. Hopewell’s Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Smith and her family are being assisted by the Red Cross, and while she lost her home, she remains positive.

“I used to care a lot about material stuff,” Smith told ABC 8 News. “But ya know my kids weren’t home, my fiancé wasn’t home, nobody was in the house, the people I care about, the people I’m staying with, nobody was hurt and the animals were good.”
