Dog Who Spent Her Whole Life Outside Takes Her First Nap in a Real Bed — And Her Face Says It All

For years, Sundae had only known the roughest kind of life — one filled with cold nights, cluttered spaces, and zero comfort. Living in a junk-strewn backyard and an unheated garage, the gentle coonhound/Labrador mix gave birth to litter after litter, all without ever setting paw inside a real home.

That all changed when she was rescued from a dog-hoarding situation in Oklahoma City by Country Roads Animal Rescue Society. And for the first time ever, Sundae got to experience something she never dreamed of: a soft, warm bed of her own.

The moment she curled up and closed her eyes, it was as if the years of fear and discomfort melted away. Relief washed over her face, and she slept like she had finally found peace.

“We’ve had her for about a week, and you’d never guess she’s never been an indoor dog,” said Sundae’s foster mom, who goes by the username Mugglequeen on Reddit. “She’s totally potty trained, incredibly gentle, and very polite inside.”

Sundae’s name reflects her sweet, gentle nature — and the swirls of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla on her face. Though she was timid at first, especially around men, her foster mom helped ease her fears in small, thoughtful ways. After leaving her boyfriend’s shorts on Sundae’s favorite spot — the bed — the wary pup slowly began to trust.

These days, Sundae can't get enough affection. She snuggles as close as possible to her foster mom every night, soaking up the love she went without for so long.

“I think she’s just making up for eight-ish years of zero affection,” Mugglequeen wrote.

Now that she’s safe, Sundae is finally getting the medical care she desperately needed. She’s heartworm positive and will need some dental work, but she’s in good spirits and on the road to recovery. Her puppies are being looked after by other fosters, leaving Sundae to focus on healing and learning what it’s like to just be a dog.

Her ideal forever home? A quiet, patient family who will give her time to continue growing more confident. A peaceful home where she can keep enjoying belly rubs, naps, and the simple joy of being loved.

“She will stay with me until her perfect forever family comes along,” her foster mom said. “And I know someone out there is going to be so lucky to have her.”
