Stray dogs and cats often lead rough lives, as food, shelter, and health are never guaranteed. Not only that, but in many countries, strays face terrible animal abuse, as they are seen as pests.
Tourists visit Greece for its beautiful beaches and stunning views, but it’s also known for the cruelty stray animals experience on those idyllic islands. Take for example this small puppy — she was found traumatized and completely dyed red, simply because she was a stray.
At first, it wasn’t clear how she was altered in this cruel way, but at least a Good Samaritan thought to stop and help this poor pup.

The vibrant red color seemed to be hair dye, which could potentially be toxic to a dog, so the kind person who discovered this puppy thought to capture her and get her medical attention.

Once she arrived at the veterinary hospital, she was given a bath. Her rescuers hoped that the color wasn’t permanent and would wash out…

But they didn’t have much luck. Unfortunately, the terrified puppy was stuck being red until they could figure out a solution, so they aptly named her Scarlet.

The vets seemed to think she was approximately three months old, so hopefully the trauma and fear she experienced would fade into the past as she grew up.

Slowly, the abused pup began to trust the humans helping her, even though the veterinary offices were strange and scary.
Warm snuggles with the vets and technicians cheered her right up!

Once she was clean, it was time to find her a home to recover in…luckily, she had one waiting for her already! The kind soul that brought her in was willing to welcome Scarlet into her household.

She was ready to buy her everything she needed and welcome Scarlet into a forever loving home. Her new mother couldn’t wait to see what she’d look like without all of that nasty, toxic dye!

It didn’t take long for Scarlet to warm up to her rescuer, either. She knew that this woman had her best interests in mind — and was ready to go home.

After a few weeks (and lots of nice, warm baths), Scarlet began to lose some of her color! Her gorgeous white coat was waiting to be shown off underneath all of the dye.

Not only did she find a loving home and a mother that was willing to put her best interests first, she also made a new best friend.
It didn’t matter to Scarlet that her furry sibling was a cat, she was just happy to have someone to share some love and affection with!

Months after being welcomed into a loving home, Scarlet was an entirely different dog.

Not only did the red dye grow out, but the pup herself grew up to be a gorgeous animal. It’s hard to imagine that, as a puppy, she was treated so cruelly by humans.
At least now she knows what it’s like to live a life of love, surrounded by humans and pets she cares deeply about! You deserve it, Scarlet!
