A man from Alaska named Tim Newton was woken up one night by some strange noises that were coming from his front yard. He got concerned and a bit terrified because he believed burglars were trying to enter his home.
He quickly put a robe on and rushed towards the door. That’s when he stumbled upon the best sight he’s ever seen. No one was trying to rob him or hurt him, but a beautiful lynx family was just using his porch in order to have some fun.
Seeing them from that close was a real pleasure for the soul. It was a perfect touch of nature running around right before Tim’s eyes.
The family’s goofing around lasted for about forty minutes after which they headed towards the forest and continued their game in the wild. The best thing was that they stayed long enough for Tim to take some pretty awesome pictures and brag on the social media.
Well, he has all the right to do so, as not many people could say they had a mommy lynx and her babies visiting their yard.
The photos of the lynx family went viral and people commented how they really wanted to be living in Alaska and be able to interact with wild animals in such close encounters.
“It was right near dawn. I heard some noises; it was like something scrambling on the deck,” Newton shared in an interview with The Dodo. “Coming out of my slumber, I thought, ‘What the heck is that?’”
“So I put on my bathrobe and slowly eased back the curtain. And right there, 2 feet away, was a lynx kitten. He was sitting there watching his siblings race by.”
“They were running back and forth, pouncing on each other. I started snapping away. I thought, ‘Wow! What incredible luck. This just beats all. This is just wonderful!’ They were so cute. It was cute-tastic.”
“They started to play again. For the next 40 minutes, they all played on my deck. They were chasing each other, rolling and wrestling.”
However, before you decide to leave everything behind and move to beautiful and snowy Alaska so that you can enjoy the nature and the wild life mind the fact that occasions like the one Tim experienced are extremely rare. Lynx are wild cats, and as any other relative of theirs, they keep themselves out of the sight of humans and hunt at night.
Lynx hunt in the remote northern forests of North America, Europe, and Asia and their favorite delicacy is the snowshoe hare. They also eat squirrels, ptarmigans, and other small rodents.
Sadly, lynx are now on the list of endangered animal species and the assumptions are that they might go extinct in around 50 years time.
They are, however, protected under the Endangered Species Act. But humans still hunt them for their beautiful fur.
