Kicked So Hard His Spleen Ruptured, He Laid There Unable To Move For Days

Hope For paws received a call on their emergency line regarding a Golden Retriever who was seen lying down for hours, unresponsive.

Once rescuers arrived, they couldn’t see any visible injuries, but they knew something was wrong internally.

Since they weren’t sure how he’d respond to them, they secured the area just incase he tried to get away. They offered him food or water, but he wasn’t interested in either.

His behavior indicated that something was seriously wrong, so they named him Antonio and rushed him to the vet.

An ultrasound revealed that Antonio was likely kicked very hard. The vet didn’t believe he was hit by a car because he didn’t have any road rash, broke bones or visible trauma that is usually present when dogs are hit by cars.

His spleen was ruptured and had to be removed, and his liver was badly bruised. He was bleeding internally, and the vet said if they didn’t rescue him that day, he would have bled out and died within hours.

Thankfully, his surgery was successful, and he made an amazing recovery. He went on to live with a foster through The Little Red Dog, and has since found loving a forever home!

He is so sweet and friendly, despite his abusive past. Seeing him today, you would never know how close he once was to dying.
