Elderly Dog Felt Worthless And Hung Her Head In Shame, Woman Begged Her To Look

Our senior dogs deserve to live out their golden years in bliss. Sadly, that isn’t always the case. This poor girl, named Athena, was abandoned outside.

She was left behind when her family moved away. They didn’t care enough to take her with them. She was left, on her own, with a heavy chain around her neck.

Her condition was heartwrenching. It wasn’t just that she was on her own, but she looked so broken down. No dog deserves this, let alone a dog that had been with a family for so long.

Imagine how she felt! She only knew how to be this family’s beloved pet only to be left behind.

Athena was hungry and thirsty. She’d watch as each vehicle passed her by, hoping they would stop and give her food and water.

This is no way to live! Finally, a rescuer named Laurica Nagel, heard about Athena and drove straight over to save her life.

Once safe, Athena was brought to the medical clinic. Considering all she had been through and her age, she was in decent health.

She had fleas and ticks and was blind in one eye, but otherwise, she was in good shape.

After her vet visit, she was taken to a local shelter. Thankfully, she didn’t have to stay at the shelter long. Someone stepped up to foster her!

Her foster home is amazing. She has lots of doggy friends and her foster mom gives the senior loads of attention.

The rescue group was particularly worried about finding a forever home for Athena. Most families want young dogs. Sadly, dogs like Athena are often overlooked. But no one was going to give up on her.

Soon, with help from social media, the perfect family stepped up to adopt her. They were able to see that even though she’s older, and moves a bit slower, she is still a deserving dog with a heart of gold.

Athena now spends her days feeling safe and loved. Her new family has lots of land for her to roam about.

Maybe her original family didn’t think she was worth much but that is forever in the past. They didn’t deserve her anyway!

We are so grateful for this happy ending! Athena is worthy, just as all dogs are. Remember, seniors need homes too, and make wonderful pets.
