One of our favorite organizations, Animal Aid, received a call about a street dog that needed assistance. When the rescuers asked for more details, it seemed she was hit by a car.
But they weren’t prepared for what they saw once they arrived to help her.

The pressure from the impact had ruptured one of her eyes. She wasn’t just in pain, she was scared! She lay there in shock.
She had no idea if she’d be okay but thankfully her rescuers knew they’d try anything to save her life. There was hope now.

The dog was also a mother to a litter of puppies. This, of course, motivated the rescuers too.
A kind neighbor agreed to look out for the babies while they took mama to the hospital. They scooped her up and quickly headed over.

Once at the hospital, the dog’s condition worsened. Her body had gone into shock. They hurried to get an I.V. in and administer fluids and pain medication.
The vet staff also discovered that her hip was dislocated. They hoped she didn’t have any additional internal injuries.

By the morning, she was stable enough for the vets to operate on her eye. It needed to be removed. This would alleviate pain and infection.
The little fighter did amazing! Her surgery was the start of her healing. She’d need lots of love and care over the next few weeks and the volunteers were eager to help.

Her hip dislocation had caused more problems than expected. She could not walk. The good news was that her puppies were safe and sound.
They continued to grow and thrive. Even though her rescuers weren’t sure if she’d walk again, they had hope.

With time and determination, the dog, now named Betty, took her first successful steps two months later. Everyone applauded.
Betty never gave up and neither did her new human friends. Once Betty was medically cleared, she could be reunited with her babies.

Betty’s homecoming couldn’t have been sweeter! Her babies circled around her. They’re nearly as big as she is!
They sniff her and realize this is most certainly Mom! Seeing their tails wag will warm your heart right up.
