Touching but sad. However I’m bothered by why a deceased pet is put in a plastic bag. Why isn’t he or she wrapped in a blanket or towel? Plastic bags are associated with trash not a pet.

My brother did the same when he lost one of his two Westies. It’s said to help the living animal to process that the other is gone.

Pets love each other. When I was little, we had 2 dachshunds, sisters. One ran out in the street and was hit by a car. Her sister sat right beside her in the street, and had tears running from her eyes. Luckily, Tina lived

Watching this brought back some painful memories. When my Pug died, his sister went through a grieving process for about 6-7 months. Every time the door opened she would run to see if he was there. When she saw he wasn’t there, she would go back into my bedroom and sat on the corner of the bed. She didn’t want to be held or comforted for a while. Feeding time was the absolute worst part of the day. When he was alive it was her job to go round him up to get breakfast or dinner. When she realized she didn’t have her duty anymore she didn’t eat for about 4-5 days. The food just sat there in her bowl. I just left her alone as I realized she needed to go through this process. It was so heartbreaking to witness seeing her so heartbroken. I tried giving her carrot treats. I started finding them around the house in the spots her brother would lay in…. that was very difficult for me. In the beginning I just left the carrots where she put them. I noticed her checking in them. I didn’t want to confuse her by removing them where she left them… Animals grieve, too. And it is so hard to watch. She eventually came around, but her personality has changed a bit. She is still loving and snuggly, but she’s never been the same. I don’t think any of us are. When he died it left a painful hole in my heart, and hers too. It’s still hard to think about and sharing this story has my eyes welling up.

Was especially sad for me since I lost my shih tzu, Dixie, in November. She was 2 days from her 15th Birthday. My dachshund grieved & is still along with us.

It’s a good idea to let an animal see their dead friend as they soon realise he or she is dead and can come to terms with it. I’ve done this recently when my guinea pig died and I let his son look at his body. He realised very quickly and think it has helped his mourning process. The cat in the video did know what has happened but the end was so sad because he knew bless him.

I was told by a vet to do this is at all possible. The other pet has an answer…

Unfortunately all my animals have passed at the vets so their furry friends never got to say goodbye. It’s a good part of the grieving process to let an animal be in the company of the deceased. They understand death so they’re less likely to be searching for their friend. That was a big ginger cat!

People that say they don’t mourn the fur buddies are very wrong.
