And as the man continues to do what humans do, the puppy remains at his side. The man teaches his puppy how to sit, how to fetch a stick, how to be ‘his dog.’ He takes the puppy fishing, shares breakfast with him, shows him that life is full of kindness and love.

This simple yet impactful process is really quite beautiful. The young dog already has great respect for his human; his eyes reveal loyalty and love as he looks upon his new dad.

But there is always a twist. A ‘cinematic awe’ that grabs your heart and doesn’t let go.

The narrator is actually the man’s beloved dog that lived a long, beautiful life in that very same house. While the man is having a good day with his new dog, he stops to acknowledge how ‘he got there.’ He grabs a worn out dog collar from a hook and walks, with his new puppy beside him, to pay his respects to the dog that made him the man he is today.
