Stoyan and Dessy do all they can to help animals in need. They donate their time and resources but they are ordinary people. They don’t run a shelter or rescue group. They are animal lovers, just like us!
One day they were out and about buying groceries when they saw a young pup. He was cruelly abandoned on the street by his owner.
The couple figured they would feed him some dog sausages and then be on their way. They would make some calls but in Bulgaria, the stray animal population is out of control and there just aren’t enough organizations to help.
But still, they would do all they could. As it was, the couple was in over their head with rescues and donations.

But the puppy didn’t care. He knew they were kind people. Dessy bent down and gave him a pat before walking away. The puppy then followed. It wasn’t a short walk either!
But the puppy was determined to go home with them. The couple walked a long time. They figured the puppy would grow tired but he didn’t.
As we explained, if they brought in every stray, the couple would have no place to put them BUT this little one was surely determined.

As they got to their house, Dessy opened the door. The little puppy was so confused. He stood at the threshold uncertain of what to do next.
They say, in the video below, that he was used to people closing doors on him, not opening them. He wagged his tail and tried to understand what was happening. Dessy tried to call him inside.

The puppy was confused. He’d take a step toward Dessy and then back out. Maybe he didn’t even know what it was like to be inside.
Whatever the case, Dessy wasn’t giving up on him. She knelt down and patiently called him inside over and over… and eventually, he walked in.

The poor pup was hungry and dirty. While food was prepared for the little guy, it was time for a bath. He was such a good sport despite being in a strange place and around strange people.
Once he was nice and clean, he was wrapped in a towel and took a rest before dinner.

After his meal, Dessy gave the puppy some love in front of a soothing (and safe!) space heater. The puppy only knew what it was like to be cold and hungry. This experience was like heaven on earth!
As he warmed up, and got some pets, he began to drift asleep while sitting up. Proof that this little one was exhausted and finally content.

The couple will find him a loving home no matter how long it takes. We are so grateful for animal heroes like Stoyan and Dessy.
