Dangerous Suspect Takes Woman Hostage But K9 Hero Has Other Plans In Store

Police K9 officers are specially trained to pursue and take down a subject in the line of duty. Like their human counterparts, K9 cops put their lives on the line every time they go to work.

When a Fresno, California police officer was summoned to the scene of a woman being held against her will, the officer took his trusty K9 officer, Argo, along with him. The officer had no idea what was about to happen, but K9 Argo looked danger in the eye and never backed down.

Once on the scene, the officer and his backup team pursued the suspect, Carlos Castanos. They knew Castanos had several warrants out for his arrest and had a violent history, so they were very guarded.

They surrounded the home and contacted the suspect, who then ran from the house and jumped a fence. He was ordered to stop but would not comply with officers, so K9 Argo was released. The dog took off in hot pursuit and grabbed the suspect’s arm, locking it in his jaw.

At that point, however, Castanos pulled out a knife and stabbed K9 Argo six times before charging towards officers. Another officer tasered Castanos, who finally got the suspect to relinquish the knife.

K9 Argo has served the department for two years and is expected to survive. He suffered knife wounds to his back and left eye and underwent surgery.

“The K-9 saved the officer’s life,” Lt. Tim Tietjen said. “If the K-9 wasn’t present, that guy would’ve been able to move towards the officer and stabbed (him). They were in close proximity.”

Castanos was treated for his injuries and booked into Fresno County Jail on multiple charges.

We extend our gratitude to the officers and K9 Argo for helping pursue the dangerous suspect. Get well soon!
