When Hayden Kristal brought home Bitsy, a 5-week-old deaf and blind puppy, her dad Steve had some doubts. He worried about how the little pup would navigate the world and whether she could thrive on her own.
Those concerns vanished the moment Steve met Bitsy.

“She has been her own woman since day one,” Kristal told The Dodo. “The first thing she did when I brought her home was make a beeline for the food dish, crawl into it, and eat until she passed out.”
Far from fragile, Bitsy has embraced life with boundless energy and curiosity. Over the years, she’s traveled across the country with her mom — hiking, canoeing, riding the subway, and even skateboarding. “Bitsy is the sweetest, friendliest, most loving, and loyal dog in the world,” Kristal said. “She’s bold, sassy, and loves adventure!”

Steve quickly became Bitsy’s biggest fan. He spoils her with treats and toys, and she adores spending time by his side. “He is her number one fan and her biggest champion,” Kristal said. “He’ll tell anyone who will listen about what an amazing dog she is and how much he loves her.”
But when COVID restrictions hit, Bitsy and her family were separated from loved ones, including Steve, for over a year.

Finally, the long-awaited reunion arrived — and it was nothing short of magical.
Steve worried Bitsy might forget him after so much time apart. But the moment she caught his scent, her reaction erased all doubt. “She totally lost her mind with joy,” Steve wrote on Facebook. “So did I.”
“Once again Bitsy proved that the abilities she has are far more impressive than the ones she’s missing,” he added. “What a truly amazing and wonderful soul.”

For Kristal, the reunion reaffirmed what she always knew: Bitsy would never forget someone who loves her deeply. And seeing them together brings a little more joy to everyone who witnesses it.
