The Kuvasz breed hails from Hungary, and was primarily bred to be both a royal guard dog, as well as a dog that was used on farms to herd and protect livestock. Now, the Kuvasz is primarily a housepet, and with good reason.

While this particular breed of dog has a life expectancy of 9 to 12 years, they will spend those years as affectionate, attentive and intelligent companions.

Because of the way they were bred, for independent thought and acting without handler instruction, this particular type of dog is for an experienced dog handler. They’re often described as being cunning and having their own sense of humor.

The Kuvasz doesn’t have a huge list of health problems like other low-life expectancy breeds, but they are known for having developmental problems with their bones, and that can cause it’s own list of health problems, particularly bone and joint disorders.
