Hairless stray dog appears on stranger’s doorstep on a freezing night, begging to be rescued

Imagine on a blustery cold day you open your front door to find a shivering scared dog staring up at you.  What would you do?

That’s exactly what happened on January 13, 2018 to a man in upstate New York. The Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA took the dog and explained what happened on Facebook:

“On January 13, Penny showed up at the door of a good citizen. It was clear that she had been dumped by the roadside and abandoned. It was a frigid night, and it was assumed she came to the door looking for food and warmth. Animal control was contacted, and she was brought to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA.”

“It was clear that she had been neglected and was in dire need of medical attention. The medical team at CGHS/SPCA found that she had demodectic mange that had gone untreated, as well as secondary skin infections and lacerations on her face and neck.

CGHS/SPCA, along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, issued a press release with a photo of Penny, in hopes of locating for the owner. Within 24 hours, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest of Paul C. Bull, 47, of Coxsackie. If convicted, Mr. Bull could receive one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

Penny has been in medical treatment and rehabilitation for two months and has made astounding medical progress.”

“She will be joining her new adoptive family this Saturday. “Many thanks to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for their diligence on this case, and to our shelter medical team that worked so hard in properly treating Penny. I can’t share enough how much we appreciate all the contributors who gave toward to her marvelous recovery,” said Ron Perez President/CEO of the Columbia-Greene Humane Society/SPCA.”

Penny is happy and healthy in her new home.  We are thankful for the amazing people that helped give Penny the help she needed.
