18. Dogs lick their noses because the roofs of their mouths have the ability to sense different scents. They actually transfer scent particles to their mouths directly from their noses!
While most dog breeds are characterized by a tongue that is a nice and healthy pink, the chow-chow is known for its blue tongue. While human beings have up to 10,000 taste bud receptors, dogs only have about 1,000. They rely on their noses to tell them what they need to know about the food they eat.
