Residents of a Miami neighborhood were horrified to find a heartbroken, dumped dog named Joey in a cardboard box on the side walk.
The neighborhood’s blog quickly alerted the locals about this disturbing situation, and resident Julian Rovito rushed to the scene to rescue Joey.

When Julian arrived, he found Joey sick but patiently waiting by the cardboard box for his heartless owner to return.
He was scared and hungry, but he refused to be rescued by Julian.
Julian and some other neighbors gave him blankets, and decided to feed him every day until they gained his trust.
Eventually, Joey realized that no one was coming for him and decided to let Julian rescue him.
However, weeks of living outside in pain and fear took a toll on his health. He is recovering now with the caretakers of “Animal Recovery Mission”.

Update: The shelter has updated that Joey has been adopted! A woman named Cynthia Cruz Ortiz has taken him home and is helping him be a happy dog again. Joey has a very gentle personality and loves hanging out with his new family on their screen patio. We are so happy for him!
